Short Term Courses

Tourist Guide Courses

Himachal Pradesh has a vast potential for tourism and therefore has something of interest for all. This is the reason the state is attracting a large number of domestic and international tourists every year. Although, the economy of our state is largely based on tourism, the state lacks professionals to serve as trained tourist guides who can play an effective role in drawing the tourists at attractions and further acting as mediators to bridge the gap between tourists and hosts. To fill this lacuna of professionals, the Institute in collaboration with the Dept. of Tourism and Civil Aviation conducts one such program in a year. In this Program the participants are made aware about the places of tourist interest in and around H.P. and their historical importance.  Stress is also laid upon improving their communication skills.

Tourist Police Courses

The Institute not only moulds the young students into promising professionals but also carries out extension activities. Having realised that the police personnel can be deployed at the places of tourist interest in H.P. and help tourists in all possible ways, the Department has started tourism orientation program for H.P. Police in four Districts of H.P. in collaboration with the Department of Tourism and Civil Aviation. The image of the state police needs to be changed drastically so that it emerges as a tourist friendly police. Initially this tourism orientation program for H.P. Police was organised in Shimla, Kullu, Dharamshala and Chamba. Thereon these are being conducted regularly throughout the State as a regular feature of the Department. The main stress laid down in this course is on aspects of Tourism product knowledge of the State, Communication Sills, and information on Tourism Services available in the State and Host-Guest relationship.
